As a native of England who emigrated to Canada with his family at the age of seven years, I eagerly embraced the new tradition of Halloween: dressing, bobbing for apples, and best of all, going door to door with a large pillow case, begging for candy. But coming to Canada from Great Britain meant leaving behind another holiday tradition that some Canadians have heard of May, but probably not: Guy Fawkes Day.
